15 Awesome Reasons To Switch To Linux

1. You don't have to be a genius to figure out how to work your computer. With Linux, there are no mysteries. There is no aspect of my operating system that I don't understand completely. And like I said before, I'm in high school. So how complicated could it be?

2. Your computer will stop crashing....I'm living proof of this one.

3. ITS SO EASY TO SET UP. Even if your computer won't even start Windows, you can use another computer to download the Linux software, put it on a disk, and insert it into the dying computer. Its like a defibrillator for your ill computer, it'll fix everything. So if you're about to throw out (or recycle hopefully) your worn out laptop or desktop, try this first. It could save you a thousand bucks. I'll put directions up for installation a little later. Its very simple.

4. Installation is quick. It doesn't ask you to agree to all these gobblydegook contracts or whatever. From what I recall, it asked me for my timezone, a name for my computer, language, and asked me to make up a password to protect the laptop. Thats all!

5. There's tons of free software. That's the great thing about Linux. All the software is made by software engineers who donate their time to making specialized computer programs available to all. I wish I was that cool to be able to do that...someday maybe. Anyway, its awesome and its all free. I have a program comparable to Photoshop (which will run you a few hundred dollars I believe) and it was free. (Its called GIMP. When you switch to Linux you should definitely get it).

6. Firefox comes with it. No more internet explorer! Which is great because its slow. I suppose you could download Firefox onto Windows, but it seems to work faster on Linux.

7. There's so many different options to choose from! If you're just an average computer user who is looking for something simple and user-friendly, I would definitely recommend Linux Ubuntu. Fedora is also similar. The others are more customizable and open to changes. There's so many I can barely decide which one I like more!

8. If you happen to be a teacher (or work in a school) there are SO MANY educational software options. My mom is a math teacher and she was thrilled with the amount of math software that Linux makes available. Even though I hate math, I thought it was pretty impressive too. There's also great science programs. My favorite is the virtual planetarium.

9. If you get stressed out when your computer gets all cluttered, you should get Linux because its really hard be disorganized when you run Linux. Everything is so neat and tidy on the desktop, and the software is organized by CATEGORIES. Imagine that! Someone really smart figured out that- duh! people want their software more organized.

10. My computer doesn't shut down randomly anymore. I no longer lose entire essays. Suck it Windows.

11. Lots of popular applications like Skype or AIM offer Linux versions. So you won't be missing out on anything.

12. This may seem like a really small detail, but you know when you're on Facebook and you try to @Jim Bob Jenson to tag them in a status and it doesn't work? It just doesn't recognize the act of tagging someone when its supposed to? Yea that doesn't happen on Linux.

13. It is estimated that the number of computer viruses hit 1 million this year...and only around 40 of those are capable of infecting Linux. Enough said.

14. You can take a really old slow laptop and turn it into a great computer just by downloading Linux...more on that later.

15. You never have to update the hardware on your computer to accommodate a new version of Linux. It'll work no matter what.

Ta-daa!

So windows is sucking the life out of your computer...here's an easy way to fix it

1. SWITCH TO LINUX

The End.

But really... before I switched to Linux, my computer crashed 4 times a month and I had to keep reloading windows on every week. IT SUCKED. I constantly lost all my files, and I'm a student so you can imagine how hard that would be.

So I decided to switch to Linux and MAGICALLY all my problems were solved overnight. Its been 6 months and my computer hasn't crashed once. You should switch. Definitely. Do it.

Look out for my next post...because I'm going to tell you all the reasons you should switch. They're really good reasons, I promise.
